Underachievement
is a serious syndrome with ramifications for a
child’s happiness and adjustment for adult life.
Students who meet the criteria for inclusion in
this program will enter an eight-week group that
focuses on increased responsibility for their own
academic success.
This is a structured group that includes
setting concrete goals for the student, has a defined
role for the parents, and is dependent on feedback
from school personnel to measure progress.
This program focuses on empowering the student
to take control of his/her academic success.

Anxiety
Therapy Group for Adolescents |

This
ongoing therapy group is intended for adolescents
experiencing anxiety associated with academics
demands, peer/relationship pressures, and parental
expectations. Participants will learn how to
understand the difference between healthy anxiety and
anxiety that interferes with optimal performance in
school and other life goals. Participants will receive
education about the symptoms of anxiety and develop
practical coping skills.

Adolescent
Depression

This
on-going therapy group is for adolescents experiencing
depression. This therapeutic group will focus on
identifying depressive symptoms, peer and school
pressures, as well as improving communication and
relationships with parents.
The
group will also include developing coping strategies,
stress management, relaxation techniques,
decision-making, challenging negative thoughts and
beliefs, conflict resolution skills and relationship
issues (dating). Adolescents will have the opportunity
to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe and
non-judgmental atmosphere with peers who
are also working to manage depression.

This program will help participants
understand the behaviors, thinking patterns, and
emotions they use to deal with frustration that often
results in inappropriate anger and domestic violence.
Types of therapy to be used include RET,
reality, behavior modification, and transactional
analysis.

Compulsive
Over-Eating

This
group for adults meets for 8 weeks on Tuesday
evenings. This group will help participants examine
emotional triggers and relationship issues that lead
to compulsive over-eating and explore strategies for
dealing with feelings in healthier ways. Each
participant will develop a personal plan with goals
for the development of healthier habits and lifestyle.
The group will not
require participants to weigh-in or to follow a
prescribed food plan. It may serve as an adjunct to
working with a nutritionalist or in a structured
weight loss program. An individual assessment is
required prior to group participation.

“Moving
On” Divorce

“Moving On” is open to men and women who are
seeking clarity, understanding and encouragement in
the midst of the difficult challenges of divorce.

thorough assessment is provided of the
adolescents’ alcohol/drug and mental health
issues. Both parents and the adolescent are
involved in this process, and a determination
will be made of what, if any, treatment is
most appropriate. This assessment process may
include drug testing.

adolescents who abuse alcohol and/or other drugs, but
do not meet criteria for primary treatment. The
process consists of 8 sessions or less and includes
education regarding the effects of alcohol and drugs.
Parental involvement is encouraged.

adolescents who abuse alcohol and/or other drugs.
Primary treatment involves meeting once per week,
either individual or group, for 12 weeks. There may
also be follow-up sessions to monitor progress and
abstinence. This treatment includes an educational
component. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged.
On-site drug testing is available.

sessions at least twice per week, with family sessions

specially designed to help teens quit tobacco (smoking
or chewing).

will receive education on alcohol and other drug use,
abuse and dependency, as well as the bio-psychosocial
aspects of alcohol and drug abuse/addiction.
Participants’ individual use/abuse will be
evaluated and they will be given feedback regarding
any further recommendations, i.e. community support,
treatment, etc.

The focus of treatment is helping patients
identify chemical abuse and dependency concepts as
they apply to them and developing motivations to lead
an alcohol/drug-free lifestyle.
As treatment progresses, patients develop sober
coping skills and lifestyles (including sober support
systems).

Patients
attend treatment three to five times per week, based
on need. Treatment
schedule provides structure to support sobriety and/or
address the denial system of the chemically dependent
patient with the level of intensity needed.
As patients progress by identifying their
chemical dependency issues and become stable in their
sobriety, aftercare groups are available to continue
supporting the recovery process.
Focus of aftercare is developing sober coping
skills and maintaining a sober lifestyle (including a
sober support system).

The
focus of therapy is identifying relapse issues,
developing sober coping skills, and addressing
recovery issues to enhance quality of life.
Patients who can benefit from this treatment
include both relapse prone patients and those in
recovery who fear relapse or want to improve the
quality of their sobriety.
Treatment is provided primarily in a group
setting with appropriate educational sessions provided
that address relapse or recovery issues.
Relapse prevention treatment is also available
in individual therapy sessions if requested.

It provides feedback, education, and support
relating to alcohol/drug issues.

skills, shame/guilt, PTSD, etc.

group specifically designed for professionals in recovery from alcohol or
other drug abuse. Criteria include a desire to remain chemical free and
improve the quality of one’s life.
